Ketchapp Jelly Jump Mobile Game Tips and Tricks Strategy Guide

Updated on March 2, 2015

Jelly Jump by Ketchapp

Jelly Jump is a game where you are a slab of jelly, and all you do is jump for survival so you don't end up being consumed by a pool of black waste that is working its way up to the middle of the screen. As the latest hit from Ketchapp, it has shown the familiar addictive, simple gameplay that the game studio is so well-known for. And I've become so smitten that here I am writing this Ketchapp Jelly Jump Mobile Game Tips and Tricks Strategy Guide.

Jelly Jump is also a maddening game that has become one of the things I look forward to when I have two minutes to myself. It's quick to play and so difficult to master that I couldn't stop myself from writing this kind of tips and tricks strategy guide for other players.

Jelly Jump Core Gameplay

The best way to start off the Ketchapp Jelly Jump Mobile Game Tips and Tricks Strategy Guide is by touching on core gameplay. And it is hard to find a game with much simpler gameplay than this:

  1. You are a jelly creature and all you can do is jump
  2. You have to time your jumps so that you aren't swalloped up by the black goo
  3. Your score goes up each time you jump to the next level
  4. You only have time to jump once so you can't correct a mistimed jump

That's the basics in a nutshell, so now that we have laid the foundation, let's talk tips.

Jelly Jump Tip 1: Don't Concern Yourself With Upgrades

Jelly Jump Tip 1: Don't Concern Yourself With Upgrades

It took me about an hour to round up enough jelly bits to be able to upgrade my square block of jelly. In fact, it was such an exciting achievement to get to 200 jelly units so I immediately upgraded to the fuzzier looking jelly atom.

And I was utterly disappointed. I expected my score to shoot through the roof because I paid jelly units and the effect should be that I'm faster with better jumping ability, but that's not what happened. My scores stayed the same and I just had to get back to playing the game.

Jelly Jump Tip 2: I Choose Not to Skip Levels

Jelly Jump Tip 2: I Choose Not to Skip Levels

You may be asking the question, "So if you don't use jelly for upgrades, then you must it for skipping levels, right?" The answer to that very question is ABSOLUTELY not.

Skipping levels sounds like a great idea because that means you aren't using an additional 30 seconds to get closer to your previous high score. The reality is that when you spend jelly to skip levels, you're waiting for the elevator to stop and the timing can prove to be tricky. What I experienced was that I spent jelly to skip 30 levels, and I mistimed my first jump out of the gate so I had just wasted my hard-earned jelly.

Unless you have a level that is the bane of your existence that you fail to pass 25% of the time that you plan on skipping, resist the temptation to skip levels.

Jelly Jump Tip 3: Memorize Levels

Jelly Jump Tip 3: Memorize Levels

You'll basically be dealing with the following levels:

  • Levels when the ceiling closes at a medium pace
  • Levels when the ceiling closes at a slower pace
  • Levels when the ceiling closes at a faster pace
  • Levels when a bridge is built from beneath you at a slow pace
  • Levels when a bridge is built from beneath you at a fast pace

And as you play, you'll not only memorize the levels that give you most trouble, but you'll also pick up patterns. For me, I can always sense when I'm going to need to make 3 rapid jumps because the ceiling is closing faster 3 times in a row. And after that, the next level is likely to move slowly to try and force an error on my part.

The only way to get better is to play so that you build the muscle memory to overcome the levels in front of you.

Jelly Jump Tip 4: Finger Placement

Jelly Jump Tip 4: Finger Placement

As gamers know, superstition can play a big part of what makes you reach higher scores. Like the basketball star that refuses to change the shoes he wears, I have my own little tips and tricks that are part of my larger recipe for success. In Jelly Jump, I found that my finger placement made a big difference in how well I did.

The biggest reason for this is that depending on how you have your hand and fingers placed, you can block the advertisements running along the bottom of the screen that just distract you. Tucking my fingers in toward the middle of the screen also allowed me to focus my eyes, which I'll dive into with tip 5.

Jelly Jump Tip 5: Trust Your Eyes

Jelly Jump Tip 5: Trust Your Eyes

The challenge of trying to reach a higher score in a video game often includes things like having to amp up the volume so that you can pick up a hint before an incoming change. But in Jelly Jump, the most effective hint or tip that I can give you is to trust your eyes.

80% of the levels you face will take place above your jelly, so your eyes should not be focused on your yellow, blue, or orange blob. Your eyes should be set on the middle of the screen so you can immediately pick up the speed of the closing ceiling. When the level involves the bridge below you, the motion is large enough that your eyes should pick it up even though you're looking at the middle of the screen.

When you stare at the middle, you are in a good position to deal with the changing of speeds, and the ever-difficult stages of the game where you have multiple fast levels at a time. Trust your eyes and let them focus on the middle.
